Abstract

The current paper aims to study the adoption of properties of photoluminescent threads to enrich women's Abaya using automated embroidery techniques. In so doing, this paper surveyed experts in the field of clothing and textiles to select the best fabrics and embroidery designs to be applied to women's Abaya. Afterwards, the paper examined whether the best design selected by experts will have the best results after testing it for glow intensity and duration. To pursue that, this paper followed the explorative experimental methodology which depends on trying and testing to understand the properties of photoluminescent threads in embroidery.

The results show that the denser the design is the more glow intensity and duration it will have under testing conditions. The results also show that the best design aesthetically from the perspective of experts is not necessarily the most effective one in terms of the functionality of using photoluminescent threads. Thus, when using photoluminescent threads to embroider women's Abaya, many issues should be taken into consideration in order to get the maximum benefit of the aesthetics as well the functional sides of such threads.
