Towards Achieving a Better Quality of Life for People with Disabilities
(Developing linguistic communication among deaf and hard of hearing children - challenges and solutions)
Abstract
This paper aims to reveal how to develop language communication among children with hearing impairment, presenting a set of suggestions and mechanisms that enhance the language communication process among this category of children. The paper begins with an introduction to children with hearing impairment, and the importance of language as the main tool of communication among children in general and those with disabilities in particular. The paper also presents a review of a number of recent Arabic and foreign studies in the field of special education that have dealt with developing language communication among hearing-impaired children. Then, the importance of language communication for this group of children is given. This is followed by a presentation of the difficulties and challenges that hinder the way of developing language communication among children with hearing impairment. After that, the researcher presents a detailed discussion of the methods and mechanisms through which language communication can be developed among children with hearing impairment. The paper concludes with the affirmation that society, in all its institutions and individuals, must support those hearing-impaired children to enhance their capabilities and improve their life quality. The quality of life and the well-being of individuals, especially those with disabilities, are among the priorities of governments and developed societies; this is what the Saudi Vision 2030 has clearly asserted.
