Abstract

The agricultural sector is one of the most important components of the Syrian economy as it is the main source of agro-food commodities, and the land is a major productive resource for agricultural activity with its two parts (plant and animal), and this sector has witnessed several fluctuations, especially in recent years as a result of the political conditions that Syria witnessed in recent years. Which led to a decrease in cultivated areas, a rise in the production costs of all agricultural crops, a decrease in the government capital provided to this sector, a decrease in the volume of agricultural investments, a change in the policy of supporting agricultural production requirements, and the lack of use of modern irrigation methods. In order to restore the agricultural sector to its position in the Syrian economy, there must be a vertical and horizontal expansion of the cultivated areas, and the wider use of modern irrigation methods to increase the irrigated area.
