The Effectiveness of an Educational Program in Developing The Knowledge And Skills of Estimating The Amount of Fabric to Implement Models

Abstract

    The aim of the study was to prepare an educational program for analyzing the garment design and estimating the required amount of cloth to produce it. Also it aimed to determine the impact of the program on the development of the knowledge and skills on the research sample, which consisted of (20) female students from the Fashion Design Department at the College of Designs and Arts. The quasi-experimental approach was used, and the program included many functions: analysis of the design in terms of its component parts, analysis of the design in terms of the overall shape that characterizes it, an arithmetic estimate of the amount of required fabric for the overall shape of the outfit, drawing a diagram for estimating the amount of required fabric for the outfit. An evaluation form was designed for the program as a tool to evaluate the skill performance. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences in the achievement test and skill performance using the educational program in determining the amount of required cloth for pieces parts and design techniques at the 0.01 significance level in favor of the post test, which indicates the effectiveness of the program and the achievement of the research hypothesis. The researcher recommended adding the educational program to determine the amount of required cloth for garment within the course contents of the clothing manufacturing courses description in the fashion department's programs.
