Abstract

The current study aimed to determine the relationship between irrational youth behaviors related to the use of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services and their achievement of financial sustainability. The study also aims to identify the differences in these behaviors and in achieving financial sustainability according to the study variables. The study adopted the descriptive-analytical approach, and data were collected through a questionnaire administered to a sample of (420) Saudi youth who use BNPL services (Tabby, Tamara) in Jeddah Governorate. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher prepared a general data form for users of BNPL services and data on the use of these services, a scale of irrational behaviors associated with the use of BNPL services, and a financial sustainability scale. The study adopted appropriate statistical analyses to draw conclusions and verify the hypotheses. The results of the study revealed that there was a significant inverse correlation between irrational behaviors associated with the use of BNPL services and achieving financial sustainability. In addition, there were statistically significant differences between average scores of the sample members in irrational behaviors associated with the use of these services and in achieving financial sustainability according to the study variables. The results also revealed that gender was one of the most influential factors on irrational behaviors associated with the use of BNPL services, while educational level was one of the most influential factors on achieving financial sustainability. Based on these results, the study proposes a set of recommendations.
