An Analytical study of the artistic and Architectural Aesthetics of the historical Al-Musalla Mosque (Al-Ghamama) in Madinah

Abstract

 The study aimed to identify the artistic and architectural aesthetics of the Al-Musalla Mosque (Al-Ghamama) and to analyze the architectural elements and their role in achieving aesthetic and religious values, The study relied on personal experience in studying artistic aesthetics that achieve the study’s goal. The study follows the historical and descriptive analytical approach in the theoretical framework and the experimental approach in its practical framework, One of the most important results is that the choice of black basalt stone (Volcanic stone) and white plaster was not just a construction decision, but added a prominent color contrast that contributed to highlighting the architectural masses and strengthened their connection to the environmental identity of Medina, which is linked to its geology. The effectiveness of drawing inspiration from architectural heritage to produce modern works of art indicates that the aesthetic values ​​of Al-Ghamama Mosque are capable of being reshaped and employed in various artistic and applied forms. Al-Ghamama Mosque represents a unique model of Islamic aesthetics based on simplicity, harmony, and light, The researcher also recommends the necessity of studying historical mosques from an artistic and aesthetic perspective, rather than limiting research to the historical dimension alone. Furthermore, the study emphasizes drawing inspiration from the principles of simplicity and balance in Islamic architecture when designing contemporary mosques, as well as documenting the architectural and aesthetic elements of Al-Ghamama Mosque within specialized academic studies.
