Designing Metal Jewelry inspired by the Aesthetic Ornamentation of the Prophet's Mosque Doors
Abstract
This research aims to utilize the inscriptions and ornaments of the Prophet's Mosque as a source of inspiration for creating modern designs in Islamic-themed metal jewelry. It focuses on analyzing the unique decorative aesthetics of the Prophet's Mosque and adapting them artistically and technically for contemporary jewelry design.
The study employed a descriptive analytical approach to explore the decorative patterns used in the doors of the Prophet's Mosque, including geometric and botanical motifs, emphasizing features that can be transformed into jewelry design elements. The research also included an experimental approach through a self-initiated experiment to design and execute a collection of jewelry using the metal forming technique of piercing and bending.
The significance of this research lies in connecting ancient Islamic art with its contemporary applications in jewelry design, thereby contributing to the revival of aesthetic heritage and presenting it in an innovative form. The results demonstrated the feasibility of achieving successful integration between traditional Islamic art and contemporary jewelry design.
The research concludes that the ornaments in the Prophet's Mosque represent a rich source of inspiration, opening vast horizons for jewelry designers to produce artistic pieces with deep cultural and aesthetic value. This also enhances Islamic cultural identity and offers new creative avenues in the field of applied arts.
