Problematic Challenges and Changes Facing Curators in the Arts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom's Vision 2030
Abstract
Art curators are specialists and mediators between artworks and visitors. They have the intellectual, historical, visual, mental and sensory language between the artist and visitors to help them with what is on display to develop aesthetic sense and taste, perceive what is on display and communicate with the recipient visitors. Al-Harbi (2023) stated that art curators have creative visions by proposing cultural and artistic mediations between international projects; in order to enter into partnership, cooperation and various exchanges of experiences and flexibility in dealing with the idea and employing it artistically with different and diverse aesthetic specificities. The research questions and objectives revolved around what are the challenges and changes facing art curators in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia? What is the role of the government in regulating the profession of curator in the arts? Are academic studies, skills and experiences important for art curators? The theoretical framework and previous studies included four axes: the challenges and changes facing art curators, the job description of personal competencies for art curators, the characteristics and traits of the creative personality of the curator, and preparing curators for the event in exhibitions and museums. The research relied on the descriptive analytical approach and the research community consisted of: According to the operational definition of the research (specialists in the profession of curator, owners of art galleries, managers of artistic events in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and workers in the departments concerned with events) and their number is approximately (500) individuals. According to the researcher's knowledge, the research sample was selected and their number was 54 individuals. The researcher built the research tool after reviewing the research literature with the aim of formulating appropriate paragraphs that can be included in the research questionnaire, which is (the questionnaire of curators in the arts). The research results concluded that the profession of curator is one of the necessary professions in artistic organizations. The research sample agreed on the importance of curatorship in the arts to develop the fields of arts in the Kingdom. Among the research recommendations is teaching graduates of art departments in all their specializations on the roles and duties of curators in the arts as a diploma and intensive courses. Amending some curricula of art departments in universities to include the profession of curator. Adopting and supporting the profession of curatorship in the arts by art departments in universities to grant it accreditation.
