Leadership of Arab Islamic Schools in the Republic of The Gambia
(A qualitative study)
Abstract
West African countries are facing significant challenges in various areas, including education, which is crucial for the development of any nation. This study aims to investigate the experiences and challenges encountered by Arab schools in the Republic of The Gambia from the perspective of school leaders. The study utilized a qualitative approach, precisely a phenomenological study method, to align with the research paper's objectives and inquiries. Interviews were conducted with five leaders of Arab Islamic schools in The Gambia to explore their leadership experiences in managing these schools and to comprehend the challenges they encounter in their management roles. The study yielded several results related to students, teachers, administrative issues, and legal affairs. One of the main findings is that Arab Islamic schools encounter administrative problems, such as a lack of experience and skills among administrative staff, as well as financial issues that jeopardize the sustainability of these schools.
