Abstract

Arabic, and Iraqi studies in particular have paid great attention to the semiological reading of the literary text after structuralism has reached its peak. Yet a keen observant eye will find out that the iconic studies of Iraqi narration have been neglected and avoided. Thus it becomes very necessary to study iconic narration which is the subject of this paper. No doubt that the icon as a semantic symbol has passed by many phases since its creation as an artistic ritual in Christianity until its usage in the symbolic realm to be one of the signs that semiology attempts to interpret its significance that signifies the cognitive resilience of signs.

The study relied on the selective method of selecting models of short stories to study the images of the presence of the icon within the narration. And that is to select good non-anarchic models that highlight the presumed presence of the iconic model in the body of the narrative text and pictures of its displacement interpretation within the text, and the interrogation of what is known as the parallel text, or the hidden text under the signs of the icon symbol.

The icon appeared in the Iraqi narrative text with various images. However, the methodological and quantitative limits necessitated the study of only two types of iconic narratives.  The first is the iconography of the photo with its ability to document the historical moment and the iconography of the historical character, as well as by shifting the referral as a form of literary development in Iraqi fictional art. Perhaps it is possible to complete the issues of the iconic approach with more analysis and interpretation, in the near future.
