The Image of Jerusalemite Women in Arab Documentaries

(An analytical study)

Abstract

The research aims to address the image of Jerusalemite women in Arab documentary films by examining a sample of 10 films produced and shown on Arab satellite channels.

Several questions were answered related to the topics raised in the films, the image in which Jerusalem appeared, the qualities and professions that women worked in, in addition to the harassment they were subjected to by the Israeli occupation, and the most important means and footage that were used to clarify this.

The importance of the research lies in confirming the narrative that shows the truth about what Jerusalemite women are exposed to and their role in the struggle against the occupation, and it will constitute an important tributary to the visual library related to documentary production.

The research followed the approach of analytical study of the available sample using the content analysis method, and through this, several results were reached, including that the image in which Jerusalemite women appeared in Arab documentaries was 100% positive.

This was done by presenting the religious and social topics that were primarily addressed in the films.

 It was also concluded that harassment and abuse are what Jerusalemite women are most exposed to, and this was presented through a successive system of shots and photographic angles, relying on the means of attribution, the most frequently used of which was the interview, in addition to still photographs and documents.
