The Role of Attachment Styles and Communication Skills in Predicting Psychological Adjustment among a Sample of King Abdulaziz University Students

This study aimed to examine the nature of the relationships between attachment styles, communication skills, and psychological adjustment among students at King Abdulaziz University. Employing a descriptive, correlational, and comparative research design, the study administered its instruments to a sample of 400 students (200 male and 200 female). The researcher utilized the Adult Attachment Styles Scale (Abu Ghazal & Jaradat, 2009), the Communication Skills Scale (Taqash, 2025), and the Psychological Adjustment Scale (Farjani, 2021). The results revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between secure attachment and both the total score for psychological adjustment and several of its dimensions. Additionally, the total score for communication skills was positively and significantly correlated with psychological adjustment, and positive relationships were observed between communication dimensions and most dimensions of psychological adjustment. The study recommended developing university programs to enhance communication skills and help-seeking behaviors, as well as conducting longitudinal and experimental studies to investigate the temporal trends and underlying mechanisms of the relationships identified.
