Challenges in Implementing Self-Assessment for School Accreditation in Public Intermediate Schools in Riyadh and Ways to Overcome Them

Abstract
The study aimed to identify the extent of self-evaluation implementation in achieving school accreditation among public intermediate schools in Riyadh. It also sought to examine the challenges associated with this implementation and propose effective solutions from the perspective of school principals. The study used the descriptive survey approach and was applied to a sample of (202) female principals of a government intermediate school in Riyadh. The results showed that the application of self-assessment differed from one field to another; the field of (teaching and learning) had the highest application rate of 77.2%, followed by (learning outcomes) at 54%, while the lowest rates were for the fields of (school environment) at 51%, and (school administration) at 39.9%. Key challenges identified included an unclear vision, limited understanding, and insufficient funding. The most effective strategies for addressing these challenges involved developing improvement plans and fostering a culture of respect and teamwork. In contrast, training workshops and funding were found to be less effective, indicating a lack of institutional support. The study recommends strengthening the institutional culture surrounding self-evaluation, increasing financial, administrative, and training resources, and providing clear tools to facilitate the effective and sustainable implementation of self-evaluation practices.
