Natural Dyes and Their Role in Promoting Sustainable Development in the Arts of Printing and Dyeing Environmentally Friendly Textiles

Abstract

The research aims to study the available natural dyes and their various sources and characterization, benefit from natural dyes and their role in promoting sustainable development, identify the environmental impact of natural dyes compared to industrial dyes, develop products of environmentally friendly textiles based on natural dyes, benefit from the artistic potential of the arts of printing and dyeing textiles in highlighting the aesthetics of sustainable natural dyes, and achieve aesthetic and artistic values through the diversity of artistic visions, the research was limited to, the use of natural dyes in printing and dyeing,  The use of environmentally friendly cotton, linen and silk fabrics, the implementation of the experiment with a group of fifth-level students at the College of Designs - Qassim University, the application as printed and dyed wall hangings, the application by knotting and tying methods, immunity with wax (batik) and silk painting, this research follows the descriptive and analytical methodology when analyzing the components of the theoretical framework in addition to the experimental approach in conducting experimentation with a group of college students, The results of the research indicate that natural dyes depend on renewable sources such as plants and animals, which contributes to preserving natural resources and reducing environmental pollution, natural dyes are a sustainable and promising option in the arts of printing and dyeing textiles, as it is an important source to promote sustainable development and protect the environment, the sources and colors of natural dyes vary in their different degrees, which led to the diversity of creative aspects of the implemented printing and pigment artworks, natural dyes interact with the natural fibers of environmentally friendly textiles In a distinctive way, which gives the fabric texture a natural appearance and beauty, taking advantage of the artistic and plastic capabilities of some printing and dyeing methods, in achieving new plastic values in sustainable printing and dyeing artworks using natural dyes, the executed printing and pigment works were characterized by highlighting the aesthetics of natural dyes and their color characteristics, practical experimentation allowed students to link natural dyes and environmental sustainability, and between its artistic and plastic application, which enriches their artistic creativity, Interest in natural dyes leads to the revival of industries Free.
