Design Thinking as one of the Effective Solutions in Designing Sustainable Products

Abstract

This research aims to clarify the possibility of achieving sustainability in product design through design thinking. The importance of the research lies in identifying design thinking and its role in improving the quality of life, and benefiting from applying design thinking in designing sustainable products that meet the current needs without harming the needs of future generations. The research follows a descriptive and analytical approach by clarifying the nature of design thinking and sustainability in product design, and analyzing several experiments of design thinking and sustainable products. The research has reached several results, which are that design thinking helps designers, companies, and all entities in various fields that aim to find real solutions. Also, paying attention to sustainable design alongside design thinking contributes to reducing the waste of resources and materials in products that do not meet the real needs, and improving the environment of study, work, housing, and the quality of life in general. In light of this, the research recommends holding more introductory and training workshops on design thinking to contribute to providing solutions that address real problems with empathy for the target group and understanding their needs, which benefits the community and raises the national economy. It also emphasizes the importance of design thinking and its role in developing sustainability by providing design solutions for sustainable products that meet the desires of the current generation and do not harm the environment and future generations.
