The Effectiveness of an E-Learning Environment Based on Google Classroom and Google Sites Platforms in Developing Mathematical Concepts Among Third-Grade Female Students

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of an e-learning environment designed according to Al-Jazzar instructional design model (2014), based on Google Classroom and Google Sites platforms, in developing mathematical concepts among third-grade primary school female students. The researchers adopted a quasi-experimental design with two non-equivalent groups. The sample consisted of 60 female students equally distributed into an experimental group taught through the e-learning environment and a control group taught using the conventional method. An achievement test was administered as the primary instrument at three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test. Results revealed statistically significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) between the two groups' mean scores in the post-test in favor of the experimental group (M = 24.73 vs. M = 16.40). Furthermore, the learning effect was sustained in the follow-up measurement (M = 24.17), with no statistically significant differences between the post-test and follow-up scores (t = 1.42, p = 0.167). The effect size (η² = 0.73) indicated a very large educational effect according to Cohen's (1988) criteria. In light of these findings, the researchers recommend integrating Google educational platforms in primary mathematics instruction and training teachers in digital instructional design based on validated scientific models.
